Haraaz Red - Yemen
Haraaz Red - Yemen
While Ethiopia may be the genetic birthplace of the coffee tree, it was Sufi monks in remote Yemeni monasteries who first began cultivating coffee plants and brewing the drink we know today. For 200 years, Yemen monopolized the coffee trade, carefully guarding the secrets of their most powerful resource, until the Dutch smuggled a few plants to the island of Java. Yemeni coffee is still cultivated in the traditional ways and grown by small holders. Because of these ancient, low-yield production methods and political strife, Yemeni coffee is some of the most sought after in the world. It is our distinct pleasure to present this extraordinary offering from the remote, mountainous region of Haraaz. Our Haraaz Red is both sweet and tart, with lemon, praline and coriander notes.
