Although Kenya is bordered on the north by Ethiopia (considered the birthplace of coffee), coffee cultivation did not begin in this country until the 1890’s, with coffee trees brought from Brazil. In the Embu region, coffee is grown up the south-eastern slope of the towering Mt. Kenya, which boasts rich volcanic soil and abundant rainfall. This region tends to produce coffees with notes of dark fruits and berries and hints of chocolate and browned sugars. Our Uteuzi Jimbo offers a uniquely syrupy mouthfeel, with hints of caramel and apple, finished with a balanced citrus acidity.
